Transcranial alternating current stimulation ameliorates emotional attention through neural oscillations modulation

چکیده

Abstract Background Numerous clinical reports have suggested that psychopathy like schizophrenia, anxiety and depression is accompanied by early attentional abnormalities in emotional processing. Recently, the efficacy of transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) changing functioning has been repeatedly observed demonstrated a causal relationship between endogenous oscillations Aims Up to now, tACS effects on attention not yet tested. To assess such ability, we delivered active-tACS at individual alpha frequency (IAF), 10 Hz or sham-tACS for 7 consecutive days bilaterally dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) totally 79 healthy participants. Results IAF-tACS group showed significant entrainment at-rest, especially open state around area an obvious advantage compared Hz-tACS. Event-related potential revealed larger P200 amplitude after IAF wider range emotions than Hz-tACS, indicating improvement facial emotion A notable positive correlation power provided electrophysiological interpretation regarding role modulation instead somatosensory effects. Conclusion These results support seminal outcome effect modulation, demonstrating feasible individual-specific therapy neuropsychiatric disorders related processing, oscillatory disturbances.

Is Transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation Effective in Modulating Brain Oscillations?

Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) is a promising tool for modulating brain oscillations, as well as a possible therapeutic intervention. However, the lack of conclusive evidence on whether tACS is able to effectively affect cortical activity continues to limit its application. The present study aims to address this issue by exploiting the well-known inhibitory alpha rhythm in ...

Entrainment of Brain Oscillations by Transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation

Novel methods for neuronal entrainment [1-4] provide the unique opportunity to modulate perceptually relevant brain oscillations [5, 6] in a frequency-specific manner and to study their functional impact on distinct cognitive functions. Recently, evidence has emerged that tACS (transcranial alternating current stimulation) can modulate cortical oscillations [7-9]. However, the study of electrop...

Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS)

Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) seems likely to open a new era of the field of noninvasive electrical stimulation of the human brain by directly interfering with cortical rhythms. It is expected to synchronize (by one single resonance frequency) or desynchronize (e.g., by the application of several frequencies) cortical oscillations. If applied long enough it may cause neuro...
